What does it take to build future-ready AI governance in Indonesia?
On 19 March 2025, Mandala Consulting had the privilege of presenting key findings from our AI Regulation, Policies, and Governance Benchmarking study at a policy dissemination event held in Jakarta. The session brought together stakeholders from government, academia, and industry to explore Indonesia’s evolving approach to AI regulation and policy development.
We were especially honored by the presence of Vice Minister of Communications and Digital, Nezar Patria, who stayed engaged throughout the discussions. He opened the event with a keynote address reaffirming the government’s commitment to inclusive policy design, digital talent development, and reducing regulatory burdens. He also emphasized the importance of Mandala’s study in providing a clear mapping of Indonesia’s current position and policy options moving forward:

Representing Mandala Consulting, Manggala Santosa, CEO, opened the session by emphasizing the importance of forward-looking, evidence-based policy in navigating AI’s rapid development; and Fahmi Islami, Lead Consultant, delivered a presentation outlining the study’s key findings. The session was moderated by Marlisa Soepeno, Director of Partnership, who guided the dialogue on how regulatory innovation can shape a more adaptive and inclusive AI ecosystem.
